DC Office of Lottery and Gaming Joins Global Network with World Lottery Association Membership
The DC Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG) has been accepted as a full member of the World Lottery Association (WLA). This move integrates the nation’s only city-run lottery into a global network, providing access to international best practices in security and responsible gaming.

A New Global Stage
The District’s lottery is now the 26th American lottery to join the prestigious international organization. The move connects the OLG with a network of over 150 lotteries from 80 countries across five continents. This provides the OLG with direct access to a wealth of shared knowledge and expertise.
“Membership in this international forum will provide us, the only city-run lottery in the country, with unprecedented opportunities for collaboration, certifications for security and responsible gaming, access to research, and support,” stated Randy Burnside, the Executive Director of the OLG.
By joining the WLA, the OLG gains direct access to global frameworks focused on operational integrity and security standards.
Strengthening Local Operations
This membership is particularly significant given the OLG’s multifaceted role in the District. Beyond the DC Lottery, the OLG also oversees the city-wide Caesars sports wagering platform and regulates all charitable gaming and games of skill. The WLA’s focus on anti-illegal gaming measures will provide valuable insights as the OLG navigates the complex and evolving US gaming landscape.
The OLG’s primary mission is to support the city. Since its start in 1982, the DC Lottery has transferred over $2.4 billion to the District’s General Fund, which supports essential city services. It has also helped local nonprofits raise nearly $140 million. The collaboration and knowledge gained through the WLA are expected to bolster these efforts, ensuring the OLG continues to operate as a best-in-class organization for the benefit of District residents.
