DC Sports Betting Resumes After 24-hour Blackout
Citywide mobile sports betting in Washington, D.C. resumed on Wednesday morning after a brief suspension of more than 24 hours.

Expansion of Market Access
The suspension occurred as FanDuel awaited the signing of the city’s fiscal year 2025 budget by Mayor Muriel E. Bowser. Despite Mayor Bowser returning the budget to the D.C. Council without her signature or veto, sports betting was allowed to continue, resolving the temporary halt.
Previously, FanDuel was the sole operator offering citywide mobile sports betting in D.C. The new provisions in the 2025 budget now permit up to six additional companies to enter the market.
New Entrants
On Wednesday morning, Caesars began accepting online bets citywide, having previously restricted mobile betting to within a two-block radius of Capital One Arena. BetMGM also announced that it would commence citywide mobile operations at 2:30 p.m. Eastern on the same day.
Other major players are eager to enter the DC sports betting market. DraftKings, which leads the nation in sports-gambling market share and is available in 25 states, expressed eagerness to introduce its mobile sportsbook product to D.C. sports fans. The expansion of operators is expected to enhance competition and provide more options for bettors in the district.
