Fanatics Expands US Presence with PointsBet Acquisition

13.05.2024

Fanatics Betting and Gaming has successfully completed its acquisition of PointsBet’s US operations.

This acquisition not only extends Fanatics’ reach into New Jersey but also expands its sportsbook services to all 20 states where PointsBet was previously active, covering approximately 95% of the US online betting market.

Seamless Transition for PointsBet Customers

The $225 million deal, finalized in April 2024, follows an agreement made the previous year. PointsBet customers in New Jersey will experience a smooth transition to the Fanatics Sportsbook platform, retaining their usernames, passwords, account balances, rewards points, and responsible gaming settings. This ensures continuity and enhances the customer experience as they migrate to the new platform.

Broadening Casino and Sportsbook Operations

New Jersey is now the fourth state where Fanatics has launched its online casino, offering a diverse range of games including roulette and slots. Fanatics Sportsbook is already operational in multiple states such as Arizona, Colorado, and Connecticut, while its casino services are available in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Strategic Acquisition and Market Expansion

The journey to this acquisition began in June 2023 when Fanatics placed an initial $225 million bid for PointsBet US, following a competitive bidding process that included a rival offer from DraftKings. Despite DraftKings’ initial higher bid of $195 million, they eventually withdrew, allowing Fanatics to secure the deal. The acquisition was confirmed when PointsBet shareholders approved the transaction on June 30.

Over the past year, Fanatics has systematically integrated PointsBet’s operations across various states, with Kansas and North Carolina being recent additions. This strategic move not only enhances Fanatics’ market presence but also solidifies its position as a leading provider in both sports betting and online casino services.

Expanding Retail Presence

Fanatics now operates 19 retail locations, including exclusive sportsbooks at notable venues such as Progressive Field and Nationwide Arena. Additionally, Fanatics boasts the unique distinction of operating the only sportsbook inside an NFL stadium, located at Commanders Field.

Strengthening Market Leadership

This acquisition represents a significant milestone in Fanatics’ strategy to dominate the sports betting and gaming industry across the United States. By integrating PointsBet’s operations, Fanatics promises greater market reach and enhanced customer experiences across its platforms, reinforcing its commitment to delivering exceptional gaming solutions.
