InPlay Global Names Troy Kane President to Launch Sports Securities Market
InPlay Global, Inc., a regulated market operator, has appointed veteran derivatives executive Troy Kane as President and Chief Operating Officer.

Kane will oversee operations, technology, and regulatory strategy for the company’s new Performance Securities™ marketplace.
This venture aims to create the first regulated securities linked to the real-time performance of college and professional sports teams.
Kane will report to Founder and CEO Edwin Johnson and work from the company’s Chicago office. The platform’s commercial launch depends on pending qualification from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and approval from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) for its Alternative Trading System (ATS), named InPlay Markets.
New Asset Class: Performance Securities
Performance Securities are structured as regulated financial instruments. They give investors financial exposure to the measurable, ongoing performance of professional and college sports teams.
These instruments use publicly available performance data and are not connected to any team, league, or governing body. Prices for these securities change based on two primary factors: on-field performance and marketplace participation.
Unlike traditional sports betting or fantasy contests, the securities do not rely on binary outcomes or fixed odds. Instead, they feature market-based price formation across a defined competition period.
Edwin Johnson, InPlay Global’s CEO, stated the company’s focus is on building a financial market, not a gaming product. He noted that financial systems have never priced real-world competitive performance before. Johnson said Kane’s background in market structure will be crucial in running the new Performance Securities market under U.S. securities law.
Securities Framework and Market Operation
Kane’s appointment helps build the operational base for the market’s launch. The InPlay platform is designed to operate within the established U.S. securities framework.
It will connect through existing broker-dealers and use a central limit order book (CLOB). This system is intended to provide clear price discovery and single liquidity pool for all trading activity.
Troy Kane, the new President and COO, emphasized the financial market discipline of the product. He stated the platform is a regulated marketplace built around neutral operations, transparent price setting, and unified liquidity.
Kane brings more than 20 years of experience in exchange operations and global market structure. Before joining InPlay, he was President of MIAX Futures at Miami International Holdings.
He also held senior roles at Citadel Securities and CME Group. Vince Gennaro, Executive Director of the NYU Lab for Transformative Leadership, described the creation of this new U.S. regulated asset class as a significant and innovative move.
