Kambi CEO Recommended for Nevada Gaming License as Company Navigates Testing
The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has recommended Kambi CEO Werner Becher for a state gaming license, a key step in the sports betting technology provider’s plan to launch its operations in the Silver State. The recommendation moves Becher’s application forward to the Nevada Gaming Commission for a final decision on August 21.

The Path to a Nevada Launch
Kambi, a global supplier of sportsbook technology to over 50 operators worldwide, has been methodically working to establish a presence in Nevada. In January, the company secured its initial manufacturer, distributor, and information service licenses from state regulators, paving the way for its entry.
The company currently has an agreement for a field trial at Bally’s Lake Tahoe and is undergoing rigorous testing with Gaming Laboratories International (GLI) to ensure its platform meets Nevada’s stringent technical requirements.
During his hearing with the NGCB, Becher provided an update on this process. He reported that approximately 55% of the GLI testing is complete. However, an unexpected issue related to a new reporting requirement has emerged and is being addressed by the company’s development team. Becher anticipates that all necessary testing will be finished by the end of November, at which point the product can be submitted to the Control Board for final approval.
Navigating the “Gold Standard”
Becher, who took the helm at Kambi in July 2024, acknowledged the difficulty of the Nevada licensing and approval process but emphasized its importance. “It’s the gold standard, and it’s worth going through it, although sometimes it can be a pain,” he told the board.
This will be Becher’s first personal gaming license in Nevada, although he has applications pending in other states. To comply with regulatory requirements for his role as Kambi’s CEO, he had to step down from board positions he held at other companies.
As CEO, Becher is responsible for guiding Kambi’s global strategy across software development, trading, and risk management for its clients. He splits his time between the company’s main office in London and traveling to meet with clients and staff around the world.
