Mississippi Sports Betting Sees Modest Year-on-Year Revenue Increase

The Mississippi Gaming Commission reported a 5.6% year-on-year increase in sports betting revenue for June, totaling $1.9 million.

Month-to-Month Revenue Drop

State operators noted a month-to-month decline compared to the $2.1 million reported in May. The total betting handle for June reached $19.4 million, which means a 4.9% decrease compared to the same period last year.

The sports betting market in Mississippi remains limited to in-person wagering, with a hold rate of 9.8% across all operators.

The results reported by Mississippi align with trends observed in other states. However, the fact that mobile sports betting is still a distant prospect in Mississippi has contributed to more moderate month-to-month declines and slower year-over-year growth.

Casino’s Performance by Region

In the context of Mississippi, it’s also worth examining the results posted by casinos in different parts of the state.

Coastal casinos generated the highest revenue among all regions, earning $1.0 million from a $12.1 million handle. Baseball was the most popular sport in this area, generating $233,105 from $2.9 million in bets. Parlay cards, while significant in other states, contributed just $361,551 in revenue from $2.2 million in stakes.

Central casinos reported $596,110 in revenue from a $5 million handle. Basketball proved to be the most lucrative single sport, with $913,093 in bets generating $222,338 in revenue, equating to a 24.3% hold. Despite this, baseball attracted the highest betting volume, with $1.5 million wagered during the MLB season.

Northern casinos recorded $313,547 in revenue from $2.2 million in bets, rounding out the regional performance data.
