The Ohio Casino Control Commission has launched an independent investigation into unusual betting activity on Cleveland Guardians games after receiving alerts from a licensed sportsbook and Major League Baseball.

Alert and Immediate Action

On June 30, a licensed sportsbook in Ohio informed the Commission about betting patterns on Cleveland Guardians games that appeared unusual. Major League Baseball contacted the Commission shortly after with the same information. Both alerts triggered a rapid response from regulators.

Under state law, the Commission has the authority to investigate any potential breach of wagering integrity. It launched an independent inquiry and began working directly with MLB’s investigative team, which has experience handling match-fixing and betting-related cases. “The Commission is working closely with Major League Baseball’s highly skilled investigative team as contemplated by Ohio law,” officials confirmed.

Previous Case Involving College Baseball

This is not the first time Ohio regulators have dealt with suspicious betting. In April 2023, the Commission acted after receiving information about irregular wagers on the University of Alabama baseball team. That case demonstrated how professional and collegiate sports can face similar risks from betting anomalies.

“The Commission’s investigation is dedicated to safeguarding the integrity of sports wagering conducted in Ohio and we appreciate Major League Baseball’s efforts are directed at protecting the integrity of the game itself,” the statement said. Maintaining transparency and public trust remains a core priority for both the regulator and the league.

The Commission confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Officials said they will not release further information until the process concludes, as public comment could affect the outcome.
