PrizePicks Secures License to Relaunch Peer-to-Peer Fantasy in New York
PrizePicks, a top sports entertainment operator, has been granted an interactive fantasy sports operating license by the New York State Gaming Commission.

Compliant Model Meets State Standards
The company will launch its peer-to-peer (P2P) contest offering in New York in the coming weeks. This successful licensing follows a legal settlement in 2024, paving the way for the company’s return to the lucrative state market.
The re-entry into New York comes after PrizePicks ceased paid operations in the state and settled a prior legal dispute with the Gaming Commission. The Atlanta-based company worked closely with regulators to adapt its contests to New York’s strict fantasy sports requirements, which were expanded by the Commission in 2023 to prohibit games that mimic proposition wagering.
The 16th Jurisdiction
Jason Barclay, PrizePicks’ Head of Public Policy and Chief Legal Officer, noted the company worked “diligently to design a game that meets the Commission’s rigorous standards.” New York’s decision is the 16th jurisdiction to formally ratify that PrizePicks’ peer-to-peer contests qualify as games of skill under local fantasy sports laws.
Mike Ybarra, CEO of PrizePicks, expressed excitement about the launch. “New York is home to some of the most passionate sports fans in the country,” Ybarra said. He added the company is “thrilled to offer a great entertainment experience that elevates how they engage on game day.”
New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo praised the Commission’s action, stating it makes a clear statement that the state will continue to “embrace innovative Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) games” that provide New Yorkers with safe, skill-based contests.
