Retired Justice Abbi Silver Appointed to Nevada Gaming Commission
Retired Nevada Supreme Court Justice Abbi Silver has been appointed to the Nevada Gaming Commission, filling the seat vacated by Commissioner Ogonna Brown, who chose not to seek reappointment.
Governor Joe Lombardo praised Silver as one of Nevada’s “brightest visionaries and trailblazers,” expressing confidence in her ability to enhance the commission’s work.
A Distinguished Judicial Career
Justice Silver brings an extensive judicial background to the commission, holding the unique distinction of being the only judge in Nevada’s history elected to every level of the state’s court system.
Her judicial career began in 2003 with her election to the Las Vegas Municipal Court, followed by roles in the Las Vegas Justice Court and the Eighth Judicial District Court.
She was later appointed by Governor Brian Sandoval to the Inaugural Court of Appeals, where she served as the first female chief judge.
In 2018, Silver was elected to the Nevada Supreme Court, culminating her judicial career as chief justice for the Northern Nevada Panel.
Transition in the Commission
“I’m honored to be appointed to the Nevada Gaming Commission,” said Silver in a statement. “I’m grateful to Gov. Lombardo for entrusting me with this dynamic role, and I look forward to serving our state.”
Silver replaces Ogonna Brown, appointed by Governor Steve Sisolak in July 2020, and declined a new term due to an increased workload at her law firm, Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie in Las Vegas. Brown was recognized for her service during a recent commission meeting by Control Board Chairman Kirk Hendrick.
