The Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation (KHRGC), newly established by the 2024 Senate Bill 299, has announced the appointment of Susan Speckert as its Chief Operating Officer.

Background and Experience

Susan Speckert, formerly the general counsel of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, brings extensive experience to her new position.

Her recent role as commissioner of law for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government further solidifies her qualifications for this leadership position.

The KHRGC, which took over the responsibilities of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission on July 1, sees Speckert beginning her new role on August 19.

Vision and Goals

Speckert expressed her enthusiasm for the new role, emphasizing her commitment to maintaining Kentucky’s leadership in horse racing. “I am honored to work alongside the outstanding team at the KHRGC to ensure Kentucky continues to lead in protecting the health, safety, and welfare of horses, riders and all participants as well as the wagering public,” she stated.

She also thanked the Board of Directors, President, and CEO Jamie Eads for this opportunity.

Jamie Eads, President and CEO of KHRGC, highlighted Speckert’s extensive background and dedication to the industry as key factors in her selection. “Susan’s commitment to and knowledge of the horse racing industry is well known. Her professional experience makes her uniquely qualified to serve as the KHRGC’s first COO,” Eads noted.
