Michigan Sports Betting Operators See 24.6% Growth in July

According to the Michigan Gaming Control Board, the state’s 13 online sportsbooks posted a total handle of $250.2 million for the month, a significant rise from the $200.8 million recorded in July 2023. This growth reflects a 24.6% increase in total online sports betting activity compared to the previous year.

Increased Gross Receipts for Online Operators

The jump in the handle also translated into higher gross receipts for Michigan’s online sportsbooks. In July 2024, operators generated $29.4 million in total gross receipts, up from $22.4 million in the same month last year.

Despite this revenue increase, taxes and payments from operators to the state remained steady at $1.1 million, mirroring results from July 2023.

FanDuel and DraftKings Maintain Strong Positions

FanDuel continues to lead Michigan’s online sports betting market, reporting an online handle of $93.4 million in July 2024, up from $73.4 million in July 2023. DraftKings followed closely behind with a handle of $69.7 million, up from $55.3 million in July 2023.

ESPN Bet recorded a handle of $13.2 million marking an improvement over Barstool’s results from July 2023. Another new player in the state, Fanatics Sportsbook, which recently entered Michigan after acquiring PointsBet’s U.S. assets, posted a $13.5 million handle.
