Mobile Sports Betting in Louisiana Surged by 34%
Louisiana Gaming Control Board has reported that the state’s June online sports betting handle rose 34,4% to $195.8 million.
Summer Slowdown in Louisiana
Louisiana also fell victim to the summer slowdown in the U.S. online sports betting industry, recording an 18% decline in turnover compared to May, with a more than 20% drop in month-over-month revenue to $24.8 million.
Despite an impressive 118% year-over-year increase in revenue for online sports betting operators, the state experienced a significant month-over-month decline in tax revenues, which dropped by 32%, reaching their lowest value since November of last year.
Following the pattern seen in other states that have already released their June reports, operators in Louisiana reported month-over-month declines but year-over-year growth. Therefore, no alarms are being raised in Baton Rouge. The state’s tax revenues, parallel to the operators’ revenues, saw a 138% increase compared to June 2023.
Basketball Most Popular Choice among Punters
In June, the most popular sport among punters was basketball, which generated $2.95 million in revenue for operators. Baseball ranked second in popularity, with operators earning $2.2 million in revenue.
Soccer and football were much less popular choices in June, bringing in a combined total of approximately $675,000 in revenue for operators.
Currently, there are nine online sports betting operators in Louisiana: ESPN Bet, Bet Rivers, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel, Betway, Bet365, and ClutchBet. However, the state doesn’t report the results of individual operators.
