Nevada Casinos Kick Off the Year with Positive Revenue Trends

04.03.2024

Nevada’s casino industry has ushered in the new year on a high note, with nonrestricted gaming licensees reporting a noteworthy revenue win in January.

According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, the state’s casinos collectively garnered approximately $1.28 billion in win revenue, marking a slight increase of 0.51% compared to January of the previous year, which saw a gaming win of $1.27 billion. This uptick comes despite a minor setback from the record-breaking revenue figures recorded in December.

Las Vegas Strip Sees a Minor Decline

The iconic Las Vegas Strip, however, experienced a slight downturn in its gaming win, totaling $686.2 million, which represents a decline of about 3.8% from the same period last year. This dip contrasts with the overall positive trend observed across the state’s gaming sector.

In contrast to the Strip’s performance, Northern Nevada’s gaming sector witnessed substantial growth. Washoe County, in particular, reported a gaming win of $87.7 million, a significant 35% increase from January of the previous year. Reno, the “Biggest Little City,” contributed notably to this surge, with its casinos achieving a 55% year-over-year increase in win revenue, amounting to $65.4 million.

State Revenue from Gaming Fees

The positive start to the year also translated into substantial revenue for the state through percentage fees. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported that the state collected $99.7 million in percentage fees based on the taxable revenue generated in January, contributing significantly to the state’s coffers.
